This little nugget of backlinking goodness is especially helpful for website owners who have an online store or a product to sell. It doesn't matter if it's a physical or digital product, the same rules apply. So let me first ask you this...
If you could get targeted visitors to your website for less than .15 cents or even .10 cents per click would you take advantage of it ?
Well what if there was more in it for you than targeted traffic by itself? Not only can you draw quality traffic from targeted visitors to your site, you will get a valuable & free inbound link without needing to give a backlink to someone or ask anyone for a reciprocal link exchange, you will spend less than .15 cents per click to your website, and even earn money on adsense advertising at the same time. You can pull this off easily by using eBay for backlinks in a way that many overlook. How?
Easy, eBay permits "sellers" to link from eBay's powerful website to a different webpage or photo if it helps as a description of the item/items you are selling or if it aids in the sales from your auction. Keep in mind though that eBay is not giving you an open invitation to compete for sales, so don't make any references about "purchase from my website", "buy from my site for a better price" or ANYTHING similar to that, and to be allowed to refer to your site you must keep the same prices for your items on both eBay and your site. eBay has no problem at all with you using your website to help the potential buyers understand your product better, get a better look at it, read about it and get a more detailed description.
In fact, eBay also lets you make an "about me" page that can link directly to your website!
Seriously, you need to understand the power of this! I didn't in the beginning.
Here's my story... My brother's website is about "Hand-Crafted End Tables" and he also has an online store.
I designed an auction listing for his product, which is called "hand-crafted end tables." In the listing, I added this line: "Want to see how an end table is created? Click here!"
That backlink took the auction bidder to a page on my brother's site. On that page, it shows how the edges of the end table should be beveled. There is no mention of price or buying on that page, only details, pictures and descriptions. However, on this webpage of my brother's site another internal link to his own online store is in clear view for any visitor with working eyes.
My next step? I created an "about me" page on eBay for him.
eBay allows one backlink to your website as long as no offer to purchase is mentioned. In other words, you can't say, "Hey, please click here to purchase my hand-crafted end tables". You can say, though, "If you want to learn more about my end tables, visit my site." To be able to do this is really cool and beneficial for you!
Now the cost to list my auction in eBay is .40 cents. I put the auction up for 7 days. In the first two days, my brother's website page got 4 hits out of the 8 views on my auction.
Let's do the math: 40 cents divided by 4 = 10 cents
Where can you buy any pay-per-click top keyword for 10 cents with no competition? Have you tried Adwords advertising lately? NO WAY will you get 10 cent clicks for valuable keywords in the current ad market with Adwords.
What if I get 6 more hits to the site off of this auction? Then the question becomes, where can you get a pay-per-click price of only 4 cents? You WILL NOT find prices that low on Adwords for comparable keywords. This is all in addition to valued backlink from eBay.
And it gets better.
My brother had a bidder on an end table.... so you can forget the 40 cents cost. He made an eBay sale. I got him 4 hits on his page for 0 costs!
It gets even better still...
At this point, I recognized how big of a find we had made! So I said "to heck with it" and in one day I posted 46 auctions on eBay. 24 hours later, we had 21 hits to my brother's website - 2 sales off his website and $3.37 adsense income because a click or two came on the adsense ads I put up on his pages.
But what about backlinks??? Here's the kicker. At that time, my brother's site was only 2 weeks old. However, he had over 46 inbound links from eBay to his site under different keywords (end tables, living room furniture, hand-crafted tables, etc.)
When all is said and done, I am going for the backlinks. I don't care if I sell anything on eBay ever(of course, my brother does though). I understand that the more backlinks my brother had to his site, the more FREE TRAFFIC he would began to pull from the search engines. But I had to admit, that you cannot do much better than 10 cents a click on top keywords to your online store!
Put your imagination to work, this is a sweet little "work-around" to use for gaining traffic-boosting backlinks to your websites. Just read eBay's rules and follow them. Your traffic may shoot through the roof!
